Sustainable Agriculture

Providing sustainable agricultural training and livelihood support for a thriving and self-reliant future.

Empowering Farmers. Cultivating Sustainable Futures.

Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for millions of rural families across Maharashtra. However, recurring droughts, erratic rainfall, declining soil fertility, rising cultivation costs, and limited irrigation have made farming increasingly uncertain, particularly for small and marginal farmers.

At Janvikas Samajik Sanstha (JVSS), we work alongside farming communities to strengthen agricultural productivity through sustainable farming practices, improved irrigation, land development, farmer capacity building, and climate-resilient agriculture. By combining scientific knowledge with community participation, we help farmers improve productivity, reduce cultivation risks, and build resilient farming systems that can sustain future generations.

Our approach goes beyond increasing crop production. We focus on improving farm incomes, conserving natural resources, and enabling farming families to achieve long-term economic security.

Our Approach

1

Support for Persons with Disabilities

We believe that disability should not be a barrier to learning. Our specialized programs support visually challenged, deaf/mute, and intellectually disabled children with customized health plans and educational integration.

Hundreds of acres of agricultural land developed and improved.

Community-led horticulture initiatives established.

Irrigation infrastructure strengthened across multiple villages.

Organic farming promoted through demonstrations and farmer training.

What We Do

Land Development

Many farmers own land that has become difficult to cultivate due to uneven terrain, poor soil conditions, or inadequate infrastructure. JVSS undertakes land development and improvement activities that make agricultural land more productive and suitable for cultivation. Through community participation and technical planning, previously underutilized land is transformed into productive farmland capable of generating sustainable livelihoods.

Irrigation Support

Reliable irrigation is essential for improving agricultural productivity. JVSS strengthens irrigation by supporting electrical connections for irrigation systems, sprinkler irrigation, farm-level water access, and other infrastructure that enables farmers to make efficient use of available water resources. Improved irrigation not only increases crop yields but also allows farmers to diversify cropping patterns and reduce dependence on uncertain rainfall.

Quality Seed Distribution

Access to quality seeds plays a crucial role in improving agricultural productivity. JVSS distributes quality and traditional seed varieties suited to local climatic conditions, enabling farmers to cultivate resilient crops with improved productivity. Traditional seed conservation also helps preserve local biodiversity while reducing dependence on external seed sources.

Organic Farming Promotion

Healthy soil leads to healthy crops. JVSS encourages farmers to adopt organic and environmentally sustainable farming practices through practical demonstrations, field-based training, and technical guidance. These practices improve soil fertility, reduce chemical dependency, lower cultivation costs, and promote long-term agricultural sustainability. Farmers are encouraged to adopt practices that protect both the environment and their livelihoods.

Farmer Training & Capacity Building

Knowledge is one of the most valuable agricultural resources. JVSS regularly conducts farmer training programmes, field demonstrations, exposure visits, and technical workshops on improved farming techniques, climate adaptation, organic farming, water-efficient agriculture, and sustainable land management. These programmes help farmers make informed decisions while adopting innovative agricultural practices.

Horticulture Development

Diversification is essential for improving farm income. JVSS promotes horticulture and long-term plantation-based agriculture by supporting community initiatives such as custard apple cultivation and other locally suitable horticultural activities. These interventions create additional income opportunities while improving environmental sustainability.
