At Janvikas Samajik Sanstha (JVSS), we work to empower women by strengthening their leadership, enhancing their economic independence, protecting their rights, and increasing their participation in community development. Through self-help groups, financial inclusion, legal support, livelihood promotion, leadership development, and social protection initiatives, we enable women to become confident decision-makers and active contributors to society.
Today, thousands of women across Maharashtra are leading businesses, participating in local governance, accessing financial services, and building secure futures for their families through the support of JVSS.

What We Do
Mahila Vikas Manch (MVM)
JVSS has mobilized over 25,000 women from 2,000+ Self-Help Groups across 300 villages into a strong federation known as Mahila Vikas Manch (MVM). Operating at village, taluka, and district levels, MVM serves as a collective platform where women strengthen leadership, advocate for rights, and improve access to government programmes. Through regular capacity-building initiatives covering financial management, entrepreneurship, legal awareness, and local governance, the federation actively promotes financial inclusion and community participation, enabling thousands of women to become confident change-makers within their communities.
Women's Economic Empowerment
Economic independence is central to women's empowerment, which is why JVSS enables women to establish sustainable livelihoods by creating opportunities for entrepreneurship, self-employment, and income generation. Thousands of women have been supported to start and strengthen micro-enterprises such as Kirana shops, tailoring, dairy farming, livestock rearing, fish vending, and agriculture. To ensure long-term success, JVSS provides comprehensive backing through skill training, financial literacy, mentoring, start-up capital, assets, tools, market linkages, and connections to government livelihood schemes, ultimately helping families build sustainable futures.
Financial Inclusion
Access to affordable financial services is essential for economic growth, yet many rural women face barriers in obtaining institutional credit. To address this challenge, JVSS facilitated the establishment of a women-led financial institution that enables Self-Help Groups to access credit and working capital for livelihood activities and small businesses. Managed entirely by women, this initiative has enabled thousands of entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, reduce dependence on informal moneylenders, and achieve greater financial stability.
Legal Aid & Counselling
Women experiencing family disputes, domestic violence, social discrimination, or legal challenges often lack access to timely support. JVSS operates counselling and legal aid centres that provide professional counselling, legal guidance, mediation, and assistance in accessing the judicial system whenever required. The programme also connects women with various government welfare schemes, pensions, and social security benefits, helping them strengthen their social and economic well-being.
Leadership & Community Participation
Empowerment goes beyond economic independence. JVSS encourages women to actively participate in Gram Sabhas, Gram Panchayats, School Management Committees, Village Development Committees, and other community institutions. Women leaders emerging from Self-Help Groups and Mahila Vikas Manch play an important role in local governance, community development, natural resource management, education, health, and social welfare, ensuring that women's voices are represented in decision-making processes.
Community-Based Health & Social Protection
Unexpected health emergencies, crop failures, and livestock losses can have devastating financial consequences for vulnerable families. To strengthen community resilience, JVSS facilitated the Kalpataru Community-Based Micro Health Insurance initiative, managed through women's collectives and Self-Help Groups. The programme provides financial protection for families, livestock, and agricultural livelihoods while promoting awareness of health insurance, crop insurance, and social security schemes. Through collective ownership, women have built a sustainable model that improves financial security and reduces vulnerability.
